TDI-Brooks Q3-2024 Vessel Report

TDI-BROOKS’ “R/V GYRE” STARTING SEEP HUNTING PROGRAM IN SURINAME

The Gyre has conducted multiple offshore Surface Geochemical “Seep Hunting” Exploration (SGE) and Heat Flow programs for major petroleum companies worldwide. Additionally, The Gyre is proficient in deepwater geotechnical coring, such as 20-meter Jumbo Piston cores (JPC) and 40-meter CPT-Stinger acquisition.

The GYRE recently underwent a shipyard period in Las Palmas, during which its Kongsberg’s Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) was upgraded from an EM-302 to an EM-304 MKII. The new EM-304 MKII is capable of high-resolution seabed mapping from 10 meters to more than11,000 meters.

The EM 304 MKII is the successor of the highly acclaimed EM 302 and the EM 304 MKI multibeam echo sounder. With its broad frequency span, this system sets a new standard in the market with no compromises between range and resolution, which require minimal post-processing.

NAUTILUS

The NAUTILUS is our newest vessel. It is a larger, 75-m, DP-II vessel that has been conducting deep push CPT projects in the NE at wind farm turbine sites for the last several months.
Vessel Details Here
The NAUTILUS is currently headed to the Black Sea for a deep geotechnical campaign including deep CPT (40m), Jumbo Piston Core and Shelby Stinger.

On the horizon is T&T in October for a heavy geotechnical project. The vessel then could be available November/ December for heavy geotechnical or deep-push (Manta-200) CPT projects.

PROTEUS

The PROTEUS is in Suriname acquiring successive EBS projects for two (2) major IOCs in addition to a buoy rotation program for a third IOC.

The vessel should be available in South America in the August timeframe with full geotechnical, survey and EBS capabilities.

GYRE

The GYRE is in Suriname beginning a 4-month long seep hunting multi-client program. This involves ~50,000 km2 wide area MBES/backscatter/plume detection and ~100 SGE cores.

The GYRE would next be available in October/November.

BROOKS MCCALL

The Brooks McCall recently finished a geotechnical project in the Gulf of Mexico. It is now enroute to Bridgeport, Connecticut, for oceanographic research projects in the Northeast. The vessel is equipped for geotechnical, geophysical, and Environmental Baseline Survey (EBS) projects.

Next availability August

MISS EMMA MCCALL

The EMMA is currently in the GOM but headed to T&T in a few weeks for a month-long analogue and 2D HR project in T&T.

The EMMA could be available in late August/early September or could go to West Africa after the work in T&T. The EMMA is available for survey, light geotechnical and EBS projects in Guyana.

3rd Party Tools

TDI-Brooks offers an extensive selection of marine geotechnical survey services, encompassing offshore, nearshore, and inland areas. Our team employs a wide array of advanced instruments to guarantee precise soil sampling and measurement.

We have the following portable geotechnical took kits for use on a 3rd party vessel:

  • Light coring kit: PC, BC operations. Available Winch, Control House, Track, A-frame components additionally.

  • Heavy coring kit: PC, BC, JPC, CPT operations. Available Winch, Control House, Track, A-frame components additionally

MANTA-200 CPT

The TDI-Brooks’ Manta-200 Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) system is suitable for almost any project in shallow water up to 150 meters. The Manta-200 represents the latest generation Cone Penetration Test (CPT) system for determining offshore seabed soil conditions.

TDI-Brooks Pnuematic Vibracorer

The newly designed pneumatic vibracorer (pVC) by TDI-Brooks, which features 3.75″ diameter cores, proved to be well-suited for these soil conditions. The pVC has been successfully deployed over 200 times on the US East Coast for offshore wind farm (OSWF) projects.

NEPTUNE 5K Coil Rod CPT

The TDI-Brooks Neptune 5000 CPT System is a coiled rod system with a 35kN push capability. The system is easily mobilized on one of TDI-Brooks’ US-based research vessels. It has a maximum penetration of 20 meters. It is an excellent tool for investigating seabed conditions prior to seabed installations such as pipelines, power cables and underwater constructions.

TDI-Brooks Auto T-Bar on Box Core and Minivane

The TDI-Brooks Auto T-Bar instrument measures the progressive resistance of a soil column to a cylindrical rod (shaped as an upside-down T) as it advances down the soil column at a constant and standard rate of travel. Operation consists of mounting the instrument onto a box corer containing an undisturbed seabed soil sample, connecting the instrument to a shipboard source of compressed air, and starting the automatic advance of the T- Bar into the soil sample.

The TDI-Brooks miniature vane instrument measures the torque and rotation at a vane shaft using the conventional ASTM method calibrated torque spring set and potentiometer, respectively.
