Research Vessel Gyre

TDI-Brooks boasts an extensive 28-year track record in vessel chartering and management. The RV Gyre is equipped with a cutting-edge Kongsberg EM 304 MKIII multibeam (MBES) echosounder, enabling precise and detailed seabed mapping across a vast range of depths, from 10 meters to over 11,000 meters.

The Gyre has conducted multiple offshore Surface Geochemical “Seep Hunting” Exploration (SGE) and Heat Flow programs for major petroleum companies worldwide. Additionally, The Gyre is proficient in deepwater geotechnical coring, such as 20 meter Jumbo Piston cores (JPC) and 40 meter CPT-Stinger acquisition. The company also offers services in environmental assessments, metocean studies, heat flow analysis, and environmental baseline studies (EBS).

This vessel is well suited for the following applications:
  • Seabed Geochemical “Seep-Hunting” (SGE)
  • Seabed Heat Flow Surveys (HF)
  • Seabed Geotechnical Coring and Measurements
  • 2DHR Seismic Multi Channel Geophysical Site Surveys
  • Pipeline Damage Assessments and
  • Inspection
  • Offshore Cable Route Surveys

The R/V Gyre is equipped with STARLINK MARINE’s satellite communications platform.  Starlink Maritime, a division of SpaceX,  utilizes satellite connectivity services. Starlink Maritime is the designated name for the satellite connectivity service provided to maritime vessels. There are no data caps on capacity, and users can expect download speeds ranging from 60-150 Mbps, with maximum peak speeds reaching 350 Mbps. Upload speeds are estimated to be between 10-20 Mbps, subject to regional variations and vessel congestion. The maximum peak speeds are reported to be 40 Mbps.

Since its launch in January 2020, Starlink’s constellation now consists of approximately 2,400 small satellites currently in orbit. In July 2022, the company introduced its maritime service, delivering high-speed, low-latency internet with the potential for download speeds of up to 350 Mbps while at sea. Starlink has extended its connectivity services to approximately 11,500 maritime vessels.

Our field services are supplemented by high quality environmental and geotechnical laboratories with a staff of nearly one-hundred and thirty individuals including fourteen Ph.D. level oceanographers, geochemists, biologists and geologists.
