TDI-Brooks and its affiliated laboratory, B&B Labs, announce the award from the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of Contract 50-DGNC-9-90007 for Period IV (2000 to 2005) of the National Status and Trends (NS&T) Mussel Watch Project. TDI-Brooks has been awarded all three U.S. coasts (East, Gulf and West) of this 5-year contract. The fixed price delivery order contract is estimated at ~$400,000 per year or ~$ 2 million for the Years 2000 to 2005.
The NOAA NS&T program is the premier, long-standing environmental monitoring program for U.S. coastal estuaries and bays. This contract award involves the yearly bivalve (mussels and oysters) sampling of all three U.S. coasts and the analyses of the bivalves for ultra low contaminant levels of pesticides, PCB, PAHs, trace metals and butyltin.
Key personnel on the project include Dr. James M. Brooks (Project Director), Dr. Bernie B. Bernard (Project Manager), Dr. Thomas J. McDonald (Organics Manager), Dr. Susanne J. McDonald (QA Manager), Dr. Roger A. Fay (Field Manager), Mr. Chris R. King (DataBase Manager) and Ms. Suzanne Cardwell (Business Manager). Major subcontractors include Skidaway Institute of Oceanography (Dr. Herbert Windom) and Rutgers University (Dr. Eric Powell) for trace metal analyses and histopathology, respectively.
This award continues 11-years (1984 to 1996) of previous involvement of the TDI-Brooks team in this marquee national environmental monitoring program. For 11 years (1984 to 1996), Dr. Brooks at Texas A&M University directed the Gulf of Mexico portion of this program. In 1994, Dr. Brooks was awarded as Project Director all three U.S. coasts on this project for the five year Period III contract. This new Period IV award will continue the involvement of the TDI-Brooks team on this project until the Year 2005.
