Coring for Woodside Energy Offshore Libya
Woodside Energy (NA) Ltd. in October 2006 awarded TDI-Brooks
and it local partner, Tibisti Oil, a contract entitled “Environmental
Baseline Survey, Offshore Libya” that also included a geotechnical
coring component. The survey involved environmental sampling
and geotechnical coring around potential well sites in Contract
Areas 35, 36, 52 and 53, offshore Libya. The objectives of
the survey was to identify soil types and characteristics
at the proposed drilling and anchor locations for well design
studies and mooring analysis as well as to collected water,
infauna, and sediment samples for a drilling Environmental
Impact Assessment.
The cruise was mobilized in Urla, Turkey using the Turkish
research vessel, the R/V PIRI REIS (Figure 1). The
vessel crew was Turkish and the science party consisted of
five (5) TDI-Brooks scientists and technicians. The vessel
left its mobilization port of Izmir on November 14, 2006 arriving
Tripoli, Libya on the 18th for custom clearances. Acquisition
of the program occurred between the 18th and 29th of November.
The vessel arrived back in Tripoli on the 29th for clearance
out of the country. The vessel left Tripoli harbor on November
30th for the transit to Valetta, Malta. The vessel arrived
in Malta on December 1st. Demobilization was completed on
December 2nd. The cruise was conducted within the projected
